Just when I thought all hope was lost, the impossible happened. This year’s MTV Music Video Awards were actually… good. After years of drowning, MTV finally took some initiative, climbed out of the water of the main stream, shook off all of its mediocrity and reclaimed its proper place in the entertainment spotlight, fresh and new. Thank you MTV, I’m glad to have you back.
This year’s show was exciting, emotional, invigorating, and dare I say enjoyable. It was entertaining in all the proper premeditated ways a producer hopes for and in all the unplanned, spontaneous ways a producer dreams of. It reminded me why I kept tuning in year after disappointing year. I have been waiting for the redemption of Music Television, and finally almost a decade later, it happened. All of the questions of Michael Jackson’s death have finally been answered. And it is true… Michael Jackson was murdered.
Authorities have found evidence that links Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the murder of Michael Jackon. Ahmadinejad’s motive—to divert international media attention.
The political turmoil resulting from Iran’s seemingly unjust election, in which the much favored candidate Mir Hussein Moussavi lost to Ahmadinejad, attracted the attention of media outlets around the world. Recent attempts to stop the media coverage by prohibiting journalists from reporting from the country failed when Iranian citizens began posting their own iReports to social networking sites and YouTube. So in desparation to hault the intense media coverage, Ahmadinejad had MJ murdered.
And apparently his plan has worked, because we’ve barely heard anything from Iran since.

In an age when popular culture moves so fast it is hurriedly served cold, promptly chewed up, and sometimes even swallowed whole, the death of a celebrity has become the only true way to bring the media to a stand still. The initial news of the megastar celebrity death may begin like a whirlwind, but like the clouds of a tornado, wind speeds will quickly slow and nothing will be left but the calm after the storm — when all pop culture comes to a screeching halt.
Since Michael Jackson’s passing almost two weeks ago, no real news about his death has broken, but our media outlets are still standing outside talking about his death waiting for the next funnel clouds to form. But how can we blame them? America is a culture obsessed with celebrity and always, a great come-back story.
Americans love their celebrities, especially when they crumble, fall apart and disappear for years before finally reappearing reinvented and new. And while most come-back stories begin with a celebrity seemingly returning from the dead, I think the most beloved come-back story of all is when a celebrity dies too soon.
